The Lucy and Stanley Lopata House was dedicated on October 20, 2001. Lopata House provides small group housing for WashU sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
The building contains kitchens, lounges, classrooms, a computer lab, a prayer room, and a multipurpose room. The Lopata Great Hall, a formal room used for dinners and other social events, is also housed in Lopata Hall.
Stanley Lopata graduated from WashU College of Arts & Sciences in 1935. Mr. and Mrs. Lopata, founders of Carboline Corporation, grew the basement chemical laboratory into a $46 million business. Together, they were longtime friends of the university, and especially the School of Engineering & Applied Science. Other memorials to them on campus are the Lopata Courtyard in Simon Hall, the Lopata Classic, a men’s basketball tournament held every fall, and Lopata Plaza.
Lopata House is made up of modern four-person single suites, with each suite having two shared bathrooms. Each student will have a: XL twin bed frame and accompanying mattress; a three drawer dresser; and a computer desk and chair. A shower curtain is provided for the bathroom and the suite is carpeted.
There are kitchen and laundry facilities available. There are study spaces available, a main computer lab and a multipurpose room. Students will be responsible for providing their personal items and toiletries.
