HIG Crest

The Herbert F. Hitzeman Jr. Hall was initially named Hall “G” and opened as a men’s dormitory. Later, it was renamed Hitzeman Hall in honor of Herbert F. Hitzeman Jr. It is now a suite residence hall for first-year students. The Hitzeman Hall, Hurd Hall, and Myers Hall are part of the HIG Residential Community. The HIG title comes from the original names of the dormitories: halls “G,” “H,” and “I.”

Hitzeman retired in June 1990 as senior vice chancellor for Washington University Public Relations after 24 years of service. Under his direction, the university completed three major fundraising campaigns and improved alumni, development, and public relations. Hitzeman Hall was dedicated in honor of Mr. Hitzeman’s achievements and dedication to the university.
